Originally from Japan, Tomomi Tanikawa loves creating patterns using paper cutouts or her drawings of observation.
Tomomi has had a life-long passion for art – studying art history, working as an exhibition coordinator, an artist studio administrator, arts grant manager and an art school admin – while trying to find her niche, which she finally found in surface pattern design. She has a Master’s degree in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts. She currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, which has been her home for the past 20 years.
Her brand name Midnight Design Studio comes from the fact that Tomomi works on her design around midnight, after her kids go to sleep.
